The IGS Tracking Network: IGS05 Reference Frame sites

Click on a site label for information on that site. This map shows the current IGS Reference Frame (RF) stations used since GPS week 1400 (5 Nov 2006, MJD 54044). This set of stations has been selected by the IGS Reference Frame Working Group (RFWG) for the IGS realization of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF). The main selection criteria were station performance, track record, monumentation, collocation and geographical distribution. At every update of the RF realization, the number of stations selected has increased, in order to improve the overall quality of the RF realization, and thus all the IGS products that depend on it.

The consistency and stability of the IGS products, as well as the ability to link measurements across space and time, depends critically upon those RF stations. As such, there are physical and operational guidelines noted as being particularly important for RF stations. Well-behaved coordinate/residual time series are an important indicator of individual station contribution to the frame realization stability. The special responsibility and effort of the agencies operating these stations is acknowledged by the IGS and its users.

See IGSMails 4642 and 4748 for more information. A machine-readable list of the stations' 4-character ID's is available.
