ROTI Maps: a new IGS’s ionospheric product characterizing the ionospheric irregularities occurrence

Ionospheric plasma density irregularities and plasma turbulence can cause scintillation in the amplitude and phase of trans-ionospheric radio waves used by satellite navigation systems, leading to a serious degradation of critical systems performance. The International GNSS Service (IGS) has accepted and realises the new ionospheric product that characterizes the ionospheric irregularities occurrence and intensity as deduced from the multi-site ground-based GPS observations. We develop, establish and threat new service to represent on a regular basis the ionospheric irregularities occurrence in the quiet-time background and severe space weather events responsible for degrading of the GPS precise positioning performance.
