An innovative procedure for 2D PWV monitoring on a wide and orographically complex area with existing infrastructures

Workshop 2017 - Ilaria Ferrando - A procedure has been conceived to produce 2D PWV maps and analyze its evolution in time with high spatial and temporal resolution. The input data are GNSS, Pressure and Temperature observations not necessarily co-located, coming from existing networks, combined with a simplified physical model. On spite of the low density and the different configurations of the networks, the procedure is able to detect meteorological events with reliable results, thanks to an index based on PWV spatial variability, to investigate severe events occurrence. The method has been applied on a wide and orographically complex area to study different meteorological scenarios. The results, compared with meteorological re-analysis to statistically evaluate the performances of the procedure, will be presented.
